Welcome to Henk Aling's website.
Below are some links that I want to share.

Father-and-son Grand Canyon crossing 2022
: Crossing the Grand Canyon with my son Michael. We went North to South
on the North Kaibab trail and the Bright Angel trail. Michael got
a heat stroke but fortunately we found a creek where he could cool off.
The crossing took 16 hours.

Grand Canyon crossing 2024
: This was during the Grand Canyon star party at the Kaibab Lodge.
The first night I camped in the forest and left at 4 AM from the
North Kaibab trailhead. I finished around 6 PM on the other side,
after hiking the Bright Angel trail up. It ends with a few more hikes
(Widforss, Uncle Jim, Arizona)

Kaibab star party 2025
: Pictures of the Widforss trail that goes around the Transept canyon,
a section of the Arizona Trail starting at the Kaibab Plateau trailhead,
a picture of the GC lodge with telescopes of the North Rim star party
and views of the Bright Angel canyon from the Ken Patrick trail. There
are also some views of the beautiful meadow in front of my cabin.

Astronomy pictures
: My hobby is astrophotography. I have two Losmandy G11 mounts
(one standard, the other with OnStep) and an AVX. My cameras are
ASI2600MC and ASI2600MM. My telescopes are ES ED127CF, GSO F/4 Newt 12",
ES MN152 (Comet Hunter), WO Redcat51. Some wide field pictures were taken
with a modified Fujifilm X-a1.
-
Observatory
: I built a modest observatory with a view of the Southern skies
next to my kitchen area. It is a cheap metal shed with a modified
roof that I can slide off and on with counterweights.
-
Artificial star
: An analysis of the diffraction and spherical aberration of an artificial star
placed at a finite distance.
-
Equatorial platform
: A Scilab script with a
3D graphical interface for design and animation
of equatorial platforms. The design options allow for Gee and VNS sectors
North and South, and a South pivot. The cone apex can be moved above the
bearing plane to accommodate a wider center-of-mass range.

Guitar song recordings
: After I developed an injury in my left wrist and was unable to play
guitar for two years, I decided that I should get some studio equipment
and record some songs. Enjoy it if you can, listening is free of charge
and worth every penny!
